Four startups to represent Africa at the World Finals of Get in the Ring in Colombia

Four African startups have booked their place at the global finals of Get in the Ring (GITR), a competition which puts startups in the spotlight – giving them a podium to create fans and connect with opportunities related to capital, talent and expertise.

In no particular order, the startups are Adfire Creative M3dia; NewTech Rail; LIK; and SmartDelivery.
Adfire Creative M3dia and NewTech Rail, both South African startups, went head-to-head with 7 others startups from 4 countries at the Central and Southern Africa finals of the competition.

To emerge winner, Adfire Creative M3dia, an app where anyone can create his or her own 3D illusions on completely flat art, pitched against Onyeka Craft and Jewelry, Technical Basketball Academy, Amen Communication, and Lark Fertilizers in the lightweight category.

On the other hand, NewTech Rail, which developed a comprehensive technology for railway overhead infrastructure, battled against Enigma Solutions, Stokvella, and Tousca in the middle weight category to emerge winner.

Both winners received a hamper from Sage with branded merchandise and a 12 month subscription to Sage One Accounting and Sage One Payroll.

LIK and SmartDelivery both competed at the regional final of Northern Africa, which took place at the just concluded Startup Africa Summit in Morocco.

LIK, a company which gives users mobile phone credit based on a point system competed against Bravo School and Sudacraft to emerge winner in the lightweight category while SmartDelivery, a Sudanese startup which provides free delivery service of fresh vegetables, fruits and meat that comes directly from farmers emerge winner of the middleweight category after defeating Moroccan startup, Linkry.

All four startups will represent Africa at the World Finals of the competition taking place during the Global Entrepreneurship Congress in Medellin, Colombia where they will compete for up to €1 million in investment.

The Global Entrepreneurship Congress will take place on March 15, 2016 at the Plaza Mayor. Tickets for the finals of GITR are up for sale!

In 2014, South Africa’s startup, GoMetro won Africa’s regional finals and went on to represent the continent at the global finals where it was named runner-up.
