| Man sentenced to five years in prison for stealing High-Tech inbred corn seeds |
A man was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment for stealing High-tech inbred corn seeds to take to China for commercial purpose.
46 years Old Mo Hailong, was an accomplice of a plot to steal the seed from 2 US firms, he hoped to take the patented corn seed to China so that his employer can make a use of them.
The Chinese man "admitted to participating in the theft of inbred - or parent - corn seeds from fields in the southern district of Iowa for the purpose of transporting those seeds to China", the US Department of Justice said.
"The stolen inbred seeds constitute the valuable intellectual property of DuPont Pioneer and Monsanto."
Attached to the crime is 10 years jail term and a fine of up to $250,000 (£174,660).
His sister, Mo Yun, was previously charged in July 2014 for trying to steal patented US seeds.
